Fred Medina's Legacy: Empowering Students Through Athletics
Fred Medina left behind an incredible legacy when he passed in late 2023. Through his +30 years as an educator and coach, he directly impacted the lives of thousands of student athletes. He was much more than a counselor or coach. He was your friend, your cheerleader, the guy who gave you tough love, and the person who had your back when you weren't in the room. He took student athletes on college visits when no one could, he spent endless nights copying game tapes to send off to coaches, he was the hype man that convinced coaches to come to East High School and other Rochester, NY schools to meet students, and he spent endless hours on the phone calling schools to find scholarships for students who needed them. Because of Fred's efforts, more students made their way to colleges from Rochester city schools, more colleges came to visit Rochester city schools looking for talent, and the students he helped are now helping others achieve things they never thought possible. The end result is that he created a flywheel that is still spinning today.
